Wisetek is one of the few vendors worldwide that can uniquely offer customers a complete one stop solution to meet all these requirements. Founded on the principle of lean manufacturing, it’s culture of flexibility and operational quality, combined with a full lifecycle solution, manufacturing assembly, forward, and reverse logistics, e-waste recycling and IT asset disposition services is what distinguishes them in the market.

The Need

Students on the MSc in International Business were tasked with evaluating Wisetek in three main areas: Supply Chain Strategy, Sustainability and Risk and Resilience. The student’s knowledge of the company was expanded by Program Manager Mr. Chris O Neill from Wisetek and they were also instructed to conduct their own in-depth research. These topics were highlighted as being of relevance today in response to sustainable business practices, response to Covid and ethical supply chain management.

The Solution

The students worked individually to craft a report and accompanying presentation. The reports submitted included a critical analysis of the main issues that Wisetek face in their supply chain strategy for expansion into international markets. They also contained an evaluation of Wisetek’s response to sustainability and an exploration of the company’s response to the global impact of Covid-19. Presentations were made online to lecturers on the programme.

Benefits of the Engagement

Students on the Master’s programme found huge benefits in researching the company in the context of their supply chain strategy, sustainability practices and response to global events. Their learning was furthered by the involvement of Wisetek and it enabled them to conduct research and evaluations in a real-life scenario and receive feedback from the company. Thalita Alves, a student on the MSc in International Business, spoke about the benefits she and fellow students experienced from the engagement: "I found the case study valuable for our career as we had the chance to research supply chain strategy, sustainability, and business continuity, which are subjects very important in the actual business scenario. In addition, Wisetek business was new for most of the class and we had the chance to learn how ITAD companies operate and thrive in their expansion and sustainability strategies." Module lecturer Sean Donovan was very grateful to Chris O Neill and Wisetek for their engagement on this project, all the students got a great insight into the workings of a Cork based company operating on the global stage in this rapidly growing sector.

"Wisetek was delighted to work closely with students from the MSc in International Business and we were happy to provide them with information on our company and how it operates. The work they carried out for the project displayed an impressive level of knowledge and insight, which speaks to the quality of the courses offered at Munster Technological University" - Chris O'Neill, Program Manager, Wisetek
